About me
I’m Hugo Diaz. I design, perform, and play video games.
Most weeks I’m on two stages: one with lights and marks, one with pixels and prototypes: the set and the screen. I’m an actor and stunt enthusiast who also designs UX/UI, swapping fight beats for user flows and camera blocking for information architecture, without leaving the live, immersive work behind.
How I got here
I grew up obsessed with how experiences feel, from theater sets to theme‑park walkthroughs. In Venezuela, I went for a Bachelor of Arts with a focus on Acting at the University of Los Andes (Mérida) and studied Graphic Design alongside it. Story, timing, and audience empathy became my foundation.
In 2021, after moving to the U.S., I kept working in entertainment, on and off camera, while learning the marketing toolkit: SEO, keyword research, KPI tracking, and ROI analysis.
In 2022, I teamed up with my brother (a machine‑learning engineer) to build a live‑stream app. That project formally introduced me to UX design, and I dove in headfirst with the Google UX Professional Certificate and a stack of additional courses. Within months, I knew I’d found my lane.
By 2023–2024, I joined READTYCH, designing a habit‑formation app for an E‑Ink tablet ecosystem. I built flows, wireframes, and high‑fidelity prototypes, and stood up a scalable Figma design system to speed delivery and raise quality.
Today, I split time between UX/UI design work and select entertainment projects, because both keep me sharp on narrative, pacing, and audience impact.
Why this background helped me
Acting teaches you to read a room, hit beats, and guide attention – exactly what great UX requires. Immersive theater made me obsessed with entry points, transitions, and payoff. That translates into interfaces that respect context, reduce friction, and land with delight.
How I work
I mix research and craft:
Discovery: user interviews, lightweight diary notes, heuristic reviews, competitor scans
Definition: journey maps, user flows, IA, success metrics
Design: sketches, wireframes, hi‑fi Figma prototypes.
Validation: usability tests, A/B ideas, rapid iteration
Delivery: annotated specs, dev handoff, design QA
I care about measurable outcomes, never losing the story.
When I’m not designing
Find me watching anime, playing video games, lifting at the gym, practicing Wushu, and rolling out on a mat for yoga. I’m based in Houston, TX, and open to remote or hybrid opportunities.
